The French Saloon will be open for late-night supper from Monday October 24.
Ian Curley, executive chef of The European Group, says the plan was always to operate later at French Saloon, but wanted the restaurant to find its feet for the first year or so before extending opening hours. A supper menu will now be served Monday to Friday, from around 10pm until 1.30am.
“If you want to have something to eat after 11pm, where do you go? We’re meant to be an international city, but there aren’t many places you can get a good glass of wine and good food, late,” says Curley.
“In Europe – in France, and particularly in Spain – people go out to eat later. The times we serve dinner in restaurants here are the times families with children go out for dinner in Europe.”
The supper offering will feature select items from the existing French Saloon menu including oysters, a house charcuterie board and steak frites. A “Saloon Burger”, using mince from The European Group’s in-house butcher, will only be available during supper.
With the venue’s location in the legal and banking district, Curley expects to attract staff working late in nearby offices, as well as hospitality workers knocking off from night shifts.
